It’s the first week of January, and I should be spending this time telling you about how I used Christmas break to re-prioritize my life, how I cherished the moments with family and friends, and how I have made a whole pack of New Year’s resolutions that I have vowed to keep.
Instead, I am going to talk about presents.
Presents make me happy ๐
I got two of the most wonderful presents this Christmas, and I can’t keep it to myself any longer!
The first was from my brother (thank you, Chris!), and I just had all of my fingers and toes crossed, hoping I would get this gift… the Fujifilm Instax Mini Instant Film Camera!
I have always been a Polaroid lover, and this little instant camera is so much fun. The pictures are adorable, and it is such a novelty to have the instant photo in your hands. I cannot wait to use this on a shoot. I have so many ideas! I’ll be sure to post some pics from it soon.
And the second gift…
Well, the second gift literally made me cry. Ron had been teasing me for weeks about my Christmas present. We weren’t even supposed to exchange gifts this year, but he broke the rules and said he had a little gift for me.
That little gift turned out to be the Canon 5d Mark II. I squealed. I cried. I basically lost my mind right there in front of the Christmas tree.
If you are a photographer, you probably get it. The 5d Mark II is like the grand poobah of cameras. It is the professional grade, super awesome, and way more than my business could afford for quite some time camera. But my perfectly ador
able husband bought it for me early.
Sigh ๐ I had a very merry Christmas.
P.S. Did any photography related items make it under the tree for you? I want to hear all about them!
P.P.S. I haven’t had much time to play with the Mark ii, and I can’t wait to use it on a shoot. If you have it, I would love to hear some of your advice. What do you love about it? What isn’t so great? Is that really loud shutter noise normal???
Wow! congrats! I am still having fun with my Rebel T2i – but I’m starting to itch for an upgrade. My husband got me color filters and this right angle mirror lens which allows me to take pictures very incognito… I live in NYC and the people watching is great, so this will be a fun toy!
Ron & Chris! They’re keepers!
Wow, two things I want to own one day. You are blessed. Maybe you can answer this question for me. I currently have a Canon rebel xt (yeah don’t laugh). My final camera upgrade one day will hopefully be what you got. But that’s going to be a while probably. My question is this, will the lenses from the canon rebel (EFS mount) fit on a mark? I saw it was simply an EF mount, not sure how they differ as I was able to find info on the Rebel T1i and it took EF/EFS.. so i didn’t know if they were all that different. I just wanted to keep that in mind if and when I purchase more lenses, don’t want to spend too much if I can’t use them anyhow later on.
Enjoy your gifts. I got a Canon mug that looks like a lens and some bonus money that will probably go towards camera stuff.
Take care
Anna

I will certainly not laugh at the Canon Rebel! Up until a week ago, I was also rocking the Rebel. You can do so much with that camera ๐
You asked a really good question. The Mark ii only uses EF lenses. Since the Rebel will take either EF or EF-S lenses, I recommend only buying EF lenses. Then you won’t have to replace everything when you upgrade. I know that it is a more money now, but if you can swing it, it will save you a ton of money later on! And, you’ll have some better lenses to work with on the rebel!
wow wow wow! how fabulous! i know you are going to have fun. i got a laptop from my husband before christmas and it has been great too not be stuck in the bedroom all the time.
wait a minute why is the canon rebel xt laughable?! its all i have but i do love it.
How fun! I love that little mirror idea. Maybe a little stalkerish ๐ but I’m sure you’ll get some great candids.
Ron did good! I didn’t know you got this too! I am really jealous now. ๐ I think I will hire you for a beach photo shoot this summer. Are you going to the OBX too?
I so wanted to talk to you at Christmas, Christie! That whole skype thing got a little hectic ๐ I am not sure if we will be going to the beach or not. Probably not this year. We are looking at houses again, and that would make it way too tough to go on vacation. I’ll keep you posted!
ooooh awesome! you made out like a bandit!
Ha ha ha, and here I was feeling on top of the world with my 7D. ๐ Actually, I STILL feel on top of the world with my 7D. It shoots like a freaking machine gun with 8fps.
Have a blast with your new Mark 5D II. <3 I'm sure it's a real snap! Heavenly, heavenly.
Chris certainly is a keeper, Ron too. The boys are disappointed fun Uncle Ron won’t be at the beach, as we are sad we won’t see you, but a house is more practical. See you soon.
Ha! I think I will keep you both. We just might need to find some way to make it out to Texas to see you guys! I would love that ๐
ok, I’m SO jealous that you got the 5D mark ii!!!! that’s so awesome!
WOW!!!!! Big ups to your husband!!! I can’t wait until I get that camera! I would have done what you did and then some…. GREAT FOR YOU!!
[…] Here are just a few recent pics from the holidays and from life, taken with the adorable and new fujifilm instant camera. […]
Congrats on the 5DMII! I’ve had mine for about nine months and these are the main pros: It’s the best full-frame Canon in existence (but you know that or you wouldn’t have wanted it); more capabilities than I can even process; good, large LCD; HD video (although personally I won’t benefit from it in the foreseeable future); image quality…the yummy color SOOC, and–say it with me–21.1 megapixels. Cons: I wish it had more than 9 AF pts. and 6 AF asst. pts.–the focusing can be pretty finicky at times (even with a good lens–I have the 50mm 1.2), esp. in low-light situations; low-light capability is strong but not fantastic; Auto WB is usually a little off indoors, but that’s easily avoidable. Also, I have tried back-button AF and I didn’t notice a significant difference, even for a portrait sesh.
Congratulations and feel free to ask if you have any questions! I haven’t even opened my manual yet, that’s how much I prefer messing with things to learn (or how much I hate reading manuals!) :). And the shutter noise could be better, but really when compared to other cameras such as the Nikon D3 (which sounds like gunfire), it’s tolerable for me. ๐
